James-Furman & Company (JF & Co.) was founded by William Furman in August 2022, continuing after a corporation and partnership of the same name, formed in 1974 with his business partner, the late Alan James.  James and Furman took that company public in 1994 as The Greenbrier Companies, Inc. The Greenbrier Companies is now an international public company traded on the NYSE (GBX), with approximately $3.5 billion in annual revenue. Its primary businesses are manufacturing and engineering freight railcars, railcar leasing, and asset management. Furman retired as CEO and Chairman in 2022 and from the Board of Directors in 2024.

JF & Co. maintains offices in Zephyr Cove, Nevada and Lake Oswego, Oregon.  It serves as a consultant and advisor to management and on boards, providing both expertise and experience in rail transportation and other industries. JF & Co.’s business plan is to acquire, build, develop, and facilitate growth in a select range of industries, drawing from its team’s specialized knowledge and record of success in business.
